TWO YEARS IN THE JUNGLE
Ed Stafford is an English explorer. He and his Peruvian guide, Cho, were the first people to walk along the Amazon river. Today, there aren't many unexplored parts of the planet. Few people can say "We were the first people to do that". But Ed and Cho can.
Ed walked 6,400 km from the source of the Amazon river in the Andes mountains, Peru, to the Atlantic Ocean. The journey took 859 days to make, and the terrain was extremely hostile.
Surviving in the jungle was a challenge. But Ed wanted to show that the Amazon is danger too. Each year, 60,000km2 of rainforest are cut down - that's about 8,5 million football pitches! So Ed's adventure had an important message.
